For this project we were assigned to create something by reusing recycled material.  We came up with the idea from a student who took this class first semester and for his project he make a table out of a tree slice and hockey sticks.  We originally wanted to do something like that but our part time teacher told us that wasn't the best idea so we started thinking of a new project.  After a little bit of thinking I thought it would be cool to engrave the depths of the lake that my cabin is on, but our teacher said we needed to add a little more because wood isn't really recyclable which is understandable.  The first weekend we went to the cabin to open it up for the summer i found a clock that wasn't used much so I tool the hands off of it and brought it home.  After coming up with the idea of a clock me and my partner still thought there was a lot of space not being used in the wood so we found a cool compass that we engraved in the wood using the laser engraver as well as the name of the lake on the top.

First we had to come up with a way for the project to stand up on its own so my partner decided to come up with plans for a stand in inventor, then he printed it out on the 3D printer and it turned out great.  Right before he was about to print it out our teacher said he should make it smaller because it was wasting materials which is good because the stand would have been too big otherwise.

Next we had to engrave the slab of wood that we got using the CNC Router I created the lake depth map in inventor and then put it in the program called fusion which determines the cut path that the router will cut out the depths at.  The lake turned out great we used an 1/8 inch bit so that the small holes towards the bottom would be cut out perfectly.

After putting the clock in we decided to add more to the wood so using inventor we made a compass that is in the shape of a wheel,  as well as the name of the lake and a clock with numbers in roman numerals which turned out great all of these were engraved on the laser engraver 

All in all this project was a huge success everything turned out great we planned out what parts of the project to do for each person perfectly and the end product was awesome.
